At Gaslamp Village Media Inc., we’ve been building websites long enough to know what works—and what causes headaches. One question we get all the time is, “Do you work with WordPress?” The short answer: absolutely not. It’s not that we haven’t used it in the past or don’t understand its place in the web world—it’s just that we’ve seen too many clients burned by its limitations, bloated plugin stacks, and constant maintenance demands. We build in Webflow because it gives us the freedom to create clean, fast, secure websites without the baggage. Here’s why we’ve left WordPress in the dust—for good.

1. Security Concerns

WordPress's open-source nature and extensive use of plugins make it a frequent target for cyberattacks. In 2024 alone, nearly 8,000 new vulnerabilities were reported in the WordPress ecosystem, with the vast majority found in plugins and themes. Alarmingly, 30% of these vulnerabilities remained unpatched, leaving numerous sites exposed to potential exploits.  This inherent risk is a significant deterrent for us. 1  2

2. Performance Issues

The reliance on multiple plugins to achieve desired functionalities can lead to bloated code and slower site performance. Many users report significant speed issues with WordPress websites, often caused by factors like poor-quality hosting, outdated plugins, and lack of optimization.  In contrast, platforms like Webflow offer cleaner code and optimized performance without the need for excessive third-party integrations. 1  2

3. High Maintenance Requirements

Maintaining a WordPress site demands constant vigilance. Regular updates to the core software, themes, and plugins are essential to ensure security and functionality. However, these updates can sometimes introduce compatibility issues, leading to potential site malfunctions. This continuous maintenance can be both time-consuming and costly. 1  2

4. Design Limitations

Achieving a unique and customized design in WordPress often requires extensive modifications to existing themes or building from scratch. Even then, the platform's structure can impose constraints that hinder creative freedom. Webflow, on the other hand, provides a visual-first, composable CMS that empowers designers and developers to create bespoke designs without such limitations. 1  2

5. Lack of Dedicated Support

Being an open-source platform, WordPress lacks centralized, dedicated support. Users often rely on community forums or third-party developers for assistance, which can lead to inconsistent and sometimes unreliable solutions. This absence of official support can be a significant drawback, especially when urgent issues arise. 1  2

6. Plugin Dependency and Associated Risks

While plugins extend the functionality of WordPress, they also introduce potential risks. Many plugins are developed by third parties with varying coding standards, leading to potential security vulnerabilities and compatibility issues. Additionally, over-reliance on plugins can result in a fragmented and unstable site architecture. 1

In light of these considerations, we've chosen to utilize platforms that align with our standards for security, performance, design flexibility, and reliability. This approach ensures that we deliver robust, innovative, and tailored web solutions to our clients without the inherent challenges posed by WordPress.
